Stop the Silence
Worldwide, millions of children are forced into sexual intercourse every year. In 2016, UNICEF revealed 1 out of 5 children in the Philippines are abused by adults they know and trust. Because of shame, more cases are unreported. To raise awareness, about child sex abuse, we needed to break the silence. Bahay Tuluyan told their stories using actual illustrations by abused children given by Sociologist Dr. Elspeth McInnes of University of South Australia. 24 hours after, the film spread around the world but was quickly taken down by Facebook because it violated its community standards. Local and international media, as well as concerned communities reacted to the censorship. Facebook eventually reinstated the film.
