MANILA Today, Philppine-based agency TBWA\Santiago Mangada Puno snagged Asia’s only Gold Lion at the Cannes Film Craft Lions, held at the third day of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. The winning film ‘Disgusting Stories’ was created for Bahay Tuluyan, a non-profit organization dedicated in protecting children’s rights and stopping abuse and exploitation in the country.
Entered under the Use of Licensed/Adapted Music category, the message of the online video was made even more powerful with the support of the composers of the Grammy-nominated song ‘Torn’, who allowed Bahay Tuluyan to use the song for the campaign.
The graphic images in the video from Dr. Elspeth McInnes’ research on child abuse are actual illustrations done by children, revealing how they were sexually violated by perpetrators they know and trust.
The film’s disturbing drawings caused social media giant Facebook to ban ‘Disgusting Stories’ for allegedly violating community standards. After four days, the video was made available again after the call to reinstate it reached over 141 million people in 16 countries.
The fight to stop the silence against child abuse and exploitation continues. To donate or volunteer to Bahay Tuluyan’s cause, or report suspected and actual child abuse, call their hotline (+63 2 254 0213) or visit their website.
